How I Knew It Was Time for Hip Replacement Surgery

For months, I knew something wasn’t right with my hip. The pain was getting worse, simple activities were becoming difficult, and I found myself avoiding things I used to do without any problem. I walked 4 miles daily but one day I just couldn’t make myself leave the house and from that day forward my hip has been in steady decline. But when do you know it’s actually TIME for hip replacement surgery? Here’s how I made that decision.

The Signs I Couldn’t Ignore Anymore

The pain started gradually. At first, I thought it was just normal aging – some stiffness here and there. But over time, it progressed to the point where: – Getting out of bed in the morning was painful – Walking more than a block was difficult – Stairs became a challenge – My quality of life was seriously affected. Now it’s to the point I dread standing up or sitting down.

Of course I was in consultation with my doctor and xrays show that I’m ‘bone on bone’ as they say. It’s not going to get any better so I’m moving forward. This decision is easy because it’s my second hip transplant. The first one went extremely well so it’s easy to make the choice to move forward.

If you’re experiencing similar symptoms and wondering if it’s time for hip replacement, trust your instincts and talk to your doctor. I’ll be documenting my entire journey – from pre-surgery preparation through recovery – so subscribe to stay updated.
